6 Common Types of Injury Law Suits

The civil justice system provides all of us with a way to enforce and protect our rights. When people are injured, using the law is often the only way to be compensated by those responsible for the injury or for insuring against the possibility of the injury. While many different types of injuries can result in many different types of law suits, the following are six of the most common.

  1. Auto accidents. More than three million people are injured in auto accidents in the United States every year. When the insurance company isn’t willing to pay a fair amount on the claim, the law is the best option to recover damages.
  2. Product liability. Manufacturers have a responsibility to make sure the products they sell are safe. When problems arise, the civil justice system provides a way for consumers to hold manufacturers responsible.
  3. Medical malpractice. Doctors and other health care professionals work hard to save lives and keep people healthy, but sometimes mistakes are made. When this happens, we are lucky to be able to turn to the courts to make sure insurance companies cover any damage that occurs.
  4. Premises liability. Property owners are responsible for maintaining a safe environment. If there is any negligence involved in a slip-and-fall type of injury, a law suit can prove it.
  5. Dog bites. Approximately 800,000 people seek medical attention for a dog bite in this country every year. Not all of these incidents are the responsibility of the animal’s owner, but when they are, an attorney can help to determine if the owner is responsible for paying damages.
  6. Workers’ compensation. For someone injured on the job, workers’ compensation is a lifeline. Claims, however, are rarely simple. Having a professional to help navigate the system and hold the insurance company accountable is important in making sure the worker receives the amount of compensation they deserve.
